Holiday Job Search

Should I pause my job search during the holidays?

You might be wondering whether itā€™s a good idea to pause or even start a job search during the holidays. Itā€™s a common question, and youā€™re not alone in asking it.

Andrew Fennellā€™s article for Fast Company addresses this very topic. Despite the rapidly changing job market, Andrewā€™s insights from last holiday season remain relevant. He outlines five compelling reasons why you shouldnā€™t put your job search on hold during the holidays. Check out his article for more details.

Divine Direction: 7 Decisions that Will Change Your Life - Part 3 of 7

Stay

Iā€™ve thought many times about how different my life would be if Iā€™d given up when I wanted to. My story couldā€™ve become something like, ā€œYeah, I used to think I was supposed to be a pastor, but I gave it a shot and things didnā€™t work out. Thatā€™s just how it goes.ā€

Iā€™m certain youā€™ll have to wrestle with occasional challenges in different seasons of your life: a boss you donā€™t think you can stand another day, a relationship thatā€™s suddenly hurting, a dream thatā€™s running out of resources, a move thatā€™s failed your expectations. When you face difficulties, itā€™s natural to reconsider your huge, life-altering decisions. You might ask questions like these.

  • Should I take my chances, quit this job, and look for something else?

  • After my spouseā€™s affairā€”is it time to move on?

  • Am I really cut out to run a business? Should I cut my losses before things get any worse?

In each of these examplesā€”and with most major life choicesā€”youā€™re at a crucial fork in the road, and itā€™s time to decide: should I stay or walk away?

Am I choosing to give up because itā€™s the right thing or because it seems like leaving would be easier?

Often the best and most rewarding decision you can make is to stay the course even when it would be simpler to turn and walk away. Iā€™m not saying you will never need to walk away. But before you decide, ask yourself, ā€œAm I choosing to give up because itā€™s the right thing or because it seems like leaving would be easier?ā€ Sometimes the greatest act of faith is faithfulness, staying where you are planted. Years from now you may look back and thank God that you decided to stay when it would have been easier to go.

Remember, God made you in His image and He is the author and finisher of your story. You are not a quitter. You are a finisher.

Pray: God, is there anything Iā€™m trying to walk away from that You want me to stay and finish? Will You give me Your strength to press on? Amen.
